Institute's Students Participate in Oxygen Network's Mentor Walk

Washington, D.C.: Tuesday, June 19th was an early day for the Women & Politics Institute. Students in the Institute's Women, Policy, and Political Leadership (WPPL) Program and participants in the Institute's WeLEAD training program participated in Oxygen Network's Mentor Walk. The mentor walk connects young women with various high-profile women leaders. Past mentor walks have taken place in Chicago, Portland, Denver, Colorado Springs, and New York. This was the first walk in D.C. and featured amazing women such as former Rep. Patricia Schroeder, Rep. Carolyn Maloney, Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, Rep. Hilda Solis, Rep. Maxine Waters, Senator Maria Cantwell, and Under-Secretary for Democracy and Global Affairs at the State Department, Paula Dobriansky. Students gathered at 6AM to walk around the National Mall with these women and many others. The walk was followed by a breakfast at the Smithsonian's Native American Museum.
