WeLEAD: Campaigns and Elections Training

On Saturday, September 29, WeLEAD held its first training session of the year on Campaigns and Elections.

Throughout the day, participants learned about the variety of careers available to them in the fields of campaigns and elections including campaign consultants, campaign managers and the role of advocacy groups.

Speakers and panelists at the training included Simone Ward, Political Director for EMILY's List and Tara Wall, Director of the Office of Public Affairs for the Administration on Children and Families in the Department of Health and Human Services.

Lunch was spent working through the campaign simulation of Heather Wilson and Patricia Madrid from 2006 to explore in more detail the different roles that are played in a campaign. Participants were able to chose and area of particular interest to them including polling/research, fundraising, communications and field work. Members of the Young Women Leaders Board lead small group discussions on those particular aspects of the campaign giving the participants not only a more in depth look at various careers, but also giving the participants and Board members an opportunity to get better acquainted.

October's training will focus on the role of Communications in politics.
