WeLEAD Graduation

Another year of WeLEAD came to a close this past Thursday. Our WeLEAD graduates enjoyed a lovely ceremony at AU's Katzen Arts Center. We had access to the Katzen Art Museum, of which, our graduates, Young Women Leaders Board members, as well as friends and family, took full advantage.

The ceremony itself was held in the Katzen Recital Hall. We heard from WPI Assistant Director Julia Piscitelli, and Founder and Director Karen O'Connor about the triumphs of this year, and looking ahead to the future of the program. Our graduates sat on stage while YWLB Co-chairs Sarah Flowers and Kelly Holly presented each of them with their certificates.

The last order of business for the day was the presentation of our 2009 Political Ambition Award. Each year, we present this award to reclaim the word "ambition." For too long the word ambitious has been thought to be unlady-like, and a quality that only men possess. At WPI and in WeLEAD, we praise this quality, and this year we had a stellar group of nominees. But ultimately, the award had to go to Tyra Banks. No, not Tyra the supermodel. Our Tyra is a different kind of model. She's a role model, a model of excellence in all that she does. She is fierce. She has taken ever opportunity that WeLEAD, and the world has to offer, and we are all so proud of her.

Congratulations Tyra, and congratulations to all of our 2009 WeLEAD Graduates!
